Are your patients affected by Peripheral Autonomic Neuropathy?

SUDOSCAN is an a device for galvanic skin response that has been cleared for use by the FDA to test for Peripheral Neuropathies and Sudomotor function.

SUDOSCAN evaluates sweat gland function through a process called galvanic skin response. SUDOSCAN measures the ability of the sweat glands to release chloride ions in response to a small electrical stimulus on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet.

SUDOSCAN's focus on the small nerve fibers within the autonomic nervous system, and their ability to quickly regenerate, allows for the monitoring of disease progression and can help gauge if your treatment plan is right for patients.

How does it work?

A small electrical current is applied to both hand and foot sensor plates. The chloride ion conductance is quantified and acts as a biomarker to assess the activity of the sweat glands and the small nerve fibers that activate them.

The amount of observed asymmetry between right and left sides helps identify the type of peripheral neuropathy when utilized in conjunction with other testing parameters.

  • SUDOSCAN is a device that tests for small nerve peripheral neuropathy.
  • Reimbursable by most insurances including Medicare.
  • $200 average Medicare reimbursement
  • It is a 3 minute test that requires no patient preparation
  • No prior authorization needed
  • Scientifically proven for early detection of small nerve peripheral neuropathy

Universal Medical Testing is a USA distributor of SUDOSCAN, a product of Impeto Medical.

SUDOSCAN is a new test that provides an accurate evaluation of sweat gland function through galvanic skin response in less than 3 minutes. SUDOSCAN measures the ability of the sweat glands to release chloride ions in response to an electrochemical activation on the palm of the hands and soles of the feet, areas with the highest sweat gland density. It is a dynamic test equivalent to a stress test in cardiology.[1]

Instant results for a 3 minutes test

1. Provides a quantitative measure of the sweat conductance on the hands and feet (in units of micro-siemens). This measure can be used to compare with later test results to follow-up patients on the effect of treatment or other prescribed interventions.

2. Evaluates symmetry (left side vs right side of hands and feet). In addition to providing information about skin conductance measurements from palms and soles of feet, SUDOSCAN also compares the levels between right versus left-hand side.

Once an abnormality is suspected or confirmed, additional evaluation by the physician with specialized tests are recommended to pinpoint the underlying cause.
